At Blackdown Nursing home we believe strongly in the importance of keeping minds and bodies as active as possible to assist a person’s welfare and therefore provide a full range of stimulating activities and entertainment.
We have dedicated activities coordinators who spend time with each resident individually to understand their interests and capabilities. The activities program is then developed to ensure all residents have as much involvement as possible.
We use a combination of the activities coordinators and visiting entertainers to facilitate the sessions that take place most days.
Examples of activities and entertainment include:
- Reminiscence sessions
- Memorabilia
- Quizzes
- Giant Scrabble games
- Visiting musicians including organists, accordion players and singers
- Children’s choirs at Christmas
- Mini pantomimes
- Seat based exercise programmes
- Animal therapy including dogs and falconry
- Easter chicks
- Firework displays
- Seasonal fairs
